DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS

Our video coverage of the 2012 Planes of Fame Air Show starts with highlights from day one. The weather Saturday morning was perfect, bright sun and cool temps made walking around the flight line and looking over these beautiful warbirds a joy. This year’s show was titled “1942-Turning The Tide” but the overall format of the airshow was very much the same as in years past. One of the big draws at this year’s air show was four North American B-25’s that were going to fly to commemorate the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, Japan but we counted only three B-25’s flying during the show, a little disappointing and no one to explain why one was missing.
Another big draw was “The Horsemen” a P-51 Mustang aerobatic team that this year added a P-38 Lightning to the display. As always they put on an awesome show for the crowd.
This year’s show had Yanks Air Museum displaying their newly acquired EC-121 Warning Star Super Constellation with visitors allowed to walk through this once secret aircraft. This was the first year Yanks Air Museum was participating in the air show.
Last year’s US Air Force’s decision to drop all their single aircraft demo teams left a hole in the show for those who like current jet fighters as well as WWII warbirds. Planes of Fame made up for that by having an F-4 Phantom perform during the Heritage Flight which was well received by the crowd as it flew by with two P-38 Lightnings and a P-51 Mustang.
Overall the air show was well ran with over 300 volunteers working on all aspects of the show.
